Gladys Holmes Southwick, 88, passed from this world on Nov. 26, 2014. Her life was devoted to her family: children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and, yes, even great-great-grandchildren. She was so proud to be called Mother and Nana.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Leith and Helen Burgess, husbands, Oliver Wendell Holmes and Myron Lewis Southwick, son, Keith Alan Holmes, granddaughter, Mary Abigail Holmes, daughter-in-law, Tina Marie Holmes, and son-in-law, Nathan Clark.

She leaves behind in life daughters, Wendolyn Holmes Clark and Elizabeth Southwick Osborne (Terry); grandchildren, Natalie Clark, Rachel Clark Wilkinson (Gary), Oliver Bradley Holmes (Sara), and Alan Michael Osborne; great-grandchildren, Nathan Heath Hinton (Tanya), Hannah Bromley Robertson (Roger), Gary Palin Wilkinson III, Clark Irene Wilkinson, Kathleen Holmes Wilkinson, Parker Alan Holmes, and Paxton James Holmes; great-great-grandsons, R.J. Robertson and Wendell Kison Robertson; and great-great-granddaughter, Lyric Rylan Hinton.

Mrs. Southwick was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Florence. She was happiest when able to attend services and was especially proud of her years serving as a “table parent/grandparent” for the Logos program.

Visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 29, at 10 a.m. at Greenview Memorial Chapel in Florence, Alabama, followed by a graveside service in Greenview at 11am.

Pallbearers are Brad Holmes, Alan Osborne, Heath Hinton, Gary Wilkinson, Dr. Tim Melson, and Philip Gambrell.

The family would like to especially thank the management and staff of Glenwood Healthcare, Hospice of North Alabama, Dr. Ralph Aquadro, and Dr. J. Michael Webb.

Mrs. Southwick was an avid reader and lover of books. In lieu of flowers, she would be pleased to know donations were made to the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library, the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church Library, or to the Abby Holmes Memorial Scholarship through the UNA Foundation.
