Rudolph John (Rudy) Greer – Obituary

Graveside service for Rudolph John (Rudy) Greer, age 83 of Huntsville, will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery with Bro. Richard Hughes officiating. Mr. Greer passed away Wednesday morning in Huntsville Hospital.
A native of Kansas City, MO, he was the son of the late Rufo and Anna Sima Greer. Mr. Greer was a graduate of the University of Central OK in 1955, with both physics and math degrees and worked for several government contractors, before joining the Army Civilian workforce in 1963. He was instrumental in bringing computer technology to NASA in the early 60’s assisting to place the man on the moon. He worked on several missile programs and served as Chief Engineer with the Viper, Chaparral and Line of Sight Forward Heavy Missile programs at Redstone Arsenal before retirement.
Mr. Greer also designed and built custom homes in Huntsville before his second retirement in 2004. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Catholic Church. He loved his family, golfing, race cars and building robotics.
Survivors include his wife Jane (Rawls) Greer of Huntsville, children Rudolph John Greer, Jr (Amy) of Arab, AL, Jennifer (Marcus) Edwards of Semora, NC, Thomas Riley of Owasso, OK, grandchildren Erin Looney Frye, Kristin Greer, Justin Bradley, great-grandchildren Brody Frye, Aiden Bradley and Kendall Bradley, brothers Frank Greer of New York, Michael Greer of Florida and sister Evangeline Kiewelen of Connecticut and several nieces and nephews and a special nephew Steve Shelton of Fayetteville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother David Greer.
Visitation with the family will be Saturday 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home.
