Sara Ruth Beasley Valentine – Obituary

Sara Ruth Beasley Valentine, 88, of the Wilson School/Zip City Community, Florence, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, after a period of declining health. She was a member of Rogers Chapel United Methodist Church and a 1944 graduate of Central High School.

Mrs. Valentine retired from South Central Bell/AT&T after 35 plus years of service being a member of the Communications Workers of America/AFL-CIO and the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Mrs. Valentine is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William L. ((Billy) and Nancy Phillips Valentine; special niece, Doris Ann Rickard; and special great-nephew, D.J. Rickard; and sister, Elsie Beasley Marks. She is also survived by first cousin, Marjorie Stewart Jobe; sister-in-law, Betty Fay Forsythe Beasley; sister-in-law, Opal Valentine Horton; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Loyd and Eloise Valentine; sister-in-law, Cornelia Valentine; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Mrs. Valentine was preceded in death by her husband of 66 plus years, John William (Bill) Valentine, parents, Elvie Lee Beasley Sr. and Marine Hardwick Beasley, an infant son, brothers, E.L. (Buddy) Beasley Jr., Robert Beasley, Ray Houston Beasley, and Jesse Glenn Beasley, and sister, Betty Ann Beasley Paulk.

Visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Greenview Funeral Home with the memorial service beginning at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in the Wilson Cemetery at Rogers Chapel United Methodist Church.

Active pallbearers are nephews, Steve Horton, Randy Paulk, George Paulk, Charles Paulk, and family friends, Billy Montgomery and Gilbert Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Herman Lard, Gilbert Paulk, Dennis Wilson, Steve Pruitt, and Tim Sharp.

The family recognizes with greatest appreciation Christy and Mark and Lauren, Lois, Amanda, Renay, Carolyn, and Abby for their love and care. Special recognition is extended to Dr. John Bartmess and staff for their many years of medical care.
