royRoy Alfred Davis, Jr. of Florence, also known as “Butch” to many close family and friends, passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at his home. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday at Elkins Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 11a.m. He was 66.

He was born October 3, 1948 to Roy Alfred Davis, Sr. and Betty Gene Senn. He is widely remembered throughout the Lauderdale County area for his excellence in high school football and baseball. He attended Auburn University where he earned a B.A. in Business on a football scholarship. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

After many years working in the freight business he retired from Yellow Freight. He had a deep trust in the love and grace of God in Jesus Christ.

Survivors include his son, Joshua Davis and his wife, Danielle Thompson; grandsons, Joshua Daniel Davis and Jeremiah Gabriel Davis; sister, Betty Gray and her husband, Paul; and brothers, David McGrew and Claude McGrew; his uncle, Carl Senn; his aunt, Nancy Smith; and several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly and lifelong special friend Nancy Lovelace Gooch.

Special thanks are given to Hospice Tennessee Valley, especially Shelly, Michelle, and Bridget, his nurses; Stephanie, his social worker; and Brother Eddy, his chaplain.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society or Pets Are Worth Saving (P.A.W.S.).
