Homer E. Rutledge – Obituary

2646-4344-Rutledge-cv1Homer E. Rutledge, 94, of Muscle Shoals, passed away October 23rd, 2014. Mr. Rutledge worked for Robbins Tire & Rubber Co for 36 years, retiring in 1986 as president of the company.

He served in WWII in the Naval Reserve in the 33rd “Seabee” Battalion. He was in the South Pacific Theater for 30 months. He was a member of Cox Boulevard Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessye and Hays Rutledge, sisters Hilda Johnson, Helen White, and Harriet Robbins; brothers Henry Hayes Rutledge and Horace G. Rutledge.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 wonderful years, Grace Jones Rutledge, sons William E. Rutledge, Mentone, Donald A. Rutledge (Dana) Chattanooga, daughters, Rebecca R. King (Doug) Atlanta, Jean R. Quillen (Joe) of Killen; brother, Herman E. Rutledge (Nadine), Sheffield. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren and brother-in-law Daniel Rex Holt.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 25, 2014 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at Colbert Memorial Chapel. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel with Larry Kilpatrick officiating. Burial will follow in Colbert Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and other family members. Chris Allison, Taylor King, Bob Berry, Roland Robbins, Skip Hodges and Bo Haddock.

Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Knight, Rodney Howard, Greg Bowling, J.B. Meadows, Fred Kelley, Wilmer Maddox, and Dr. Ken Springer.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to caregivers, Terri, Katrena, Haley, Grace, Jennifer, and to Sarah with Southern Hospice. Your kindness, dedication, and compassion will always be treasured.
