DECATUR-A Decatur woman gave birth to a baby boy on October 14th.  The child tested positive for amphetamines and opiates.  Here is how Decatur Police describe the events:

“On October 14th, 2014 Breanna Magdaleina Lopez gave birth to a baby boy at Decatur Morgan Hospital. At the time of the infant’s birth he tested positive for Amphetamines and Opiates. A joint investigation was conducted by the Morgan County Department of Human Resources as well as the Decatur Police Department.

At the conclusion of the investigation it was determined that Breanna had smoked and injected crystal meth, fully aware that she was pregnant at the time.

On October 20th, 2014, Breanna was located in Decatur by Officer Dennis Berkowtiz. She was arrested for an active failure to appear warrant out of the City of Decatur. Det. De Leon was notified and Breanna was subsequently charged with Chemical Endangerment of a Child.

She is being held at the Decatur City jail. Breanna is currently out on bond for two felony drugs charges. Attempts are being made to have her bond revoked through the Morgan County District Attorney’s office.

It is unknown at this time if the child will suffer any long term effects or disabilities as a result of the drug exposure.”
