Gertie McDaniel Grissom – Obituary

Gertie McDaniel Grissom, age 99, of Florence, died Sept. 30, 2014, at ECM Hospital. Her graveside service will be Friday at 1 p.m. in Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia, with the Rev. Robert Sparkman officiating.

Mrs. Grissom was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Florence, Alabama. She was retired from Boilermakers Local No. 455 where she had been employed as a secretary. She was born near Red Bay, Alabama. She was an honorary member of the F. P. McDaniel Eastern Star in Littleville, Alabama.

She is survived by her children, Pelter McDaniel, of Florence, Mary Kathryn McDaniel Scarborough (Jim), of Vancouver, Washington, Ray McDaniel (Dottie), of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Nancy McDaniel Gilmore (Jimmy), of Birmingham, Alabama; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family expresses thanks to Dr. Ricky Irons, Dr. Robert Webb, and the nurses of the sixth floor, including palliative care, at ECM Hospital.
