Gunshots Result In Arrest Of One At Rec Center In Decatur

DECATUR-The Decatur Police responded to a report of gunfire on Friday, September 26th at the Carrie Matthews Recreation Center in Decatur.  Here is how the Decatur Police describe the events leading up to the arrest:

SYNOPSIS OF OFFENSE & ARREST:

“On September 26, 2014 at 7:22 pm, Morgan County Central Dispatch received multiple calls of gunshots coming from the parking lot at Carrie Matthews Recreation Center located at 902 6th Ave NW Decatur, AL.

A female juvenile was transported by a personal vehicle to Decatur Morgan Hospital. The juvenile was suffering from gunshot wounds to both of her legs. She was treated for non life threatening injuries and later released.

Officers with the Decatur Police Department’s Patrol Division and Criminal Investigation Division responded to Carrie Matthews Recreation Center and Decatur Morgan Hospital.

During the course of the investigation it was learned that there was a large gathering of juveniles in the parking lot of Carrie Matthews Recreation Center to watch two juveniles fight. During the fight a 17 year old male identified as Ladalvin Montrelle Garland fired multiple gunshots towards the crowd of juveniles as they were dispersing striking one female juvenile.

On September 29, 2014 Detectives with the Decatur Police Department and help from Huntsville Patrol Officers located Ladalvin at his residence in Harvest, AL.

Ladalvin was placed under arrest for Assault 2nd Degree and transported to the Decatur City Jail where he was charged and booked in. Ladalvin will be transferred to the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $50,000.00 bond set by Morgan County Circuit Judge Glenn Thompson.

Ladalvin is 17 years old but is being charged as an adult.”
