The words we hear most often regarding Mother are: beautiful, kind, sweet, loving, tough as nails and a true ”lady.” She was all those things and more.

Mother was a natural caregiver – beginning as a teenager with her own Mother, who had ALS. So the ALS ice bucket challenge is special to our family. She then cared for her Dad for many years. In mid-life Mother went back to college and became an RN. She was always the nurse that doctors and patients alike asked for.

Mother and Daddy were married for 63 years. They were wonderful parents who knew that the simple things, and their time, were the important things in life. Mother always made the comment that she would fight a circle saw for her family – and she would have.

Survivors include her son, Danny Lee Potts and wife Brenda; daughter, Donna Jean Risner and husband Johnny, three grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

A special thank you to her caregivers over the last six months: Jessica Benson – her nurse from Southern Care Hospice. Also, Brittany Hill, Asheton Parker, Alisha Gray and Petra Coppers. And, the most special nurse of all – April Risner – who always had Mother dolled up with makeup and jewelry. Doctors McAnalley and McCoy.

Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the ALS or Alzheimer’s Association.
