Graveside Service for Carnette Linniey Steele Hale Leonard, age 91, of Hartselle will be Tuesday September 23, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at Moulton Memory Gardens with Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Monday September 22, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Leonard was born October 09, 1922 in Lawrence County, AL to James R. Steele and Lillian Long Steele. She passed away Friday September 19, 2014 at the Galleria Woods Nursing Home in Birmingham, AL. Mrs. Leonard retired from the Decatur City School system after teaching for 29 years. She was selected Alabama Favorite Teacher in 1979. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association where she was President for four years. She was a member of First Bible Church in Decatur.
Mrs. Leonard was preceded in death by two husbands; Verdis A. Hale and Edward Lee Leonard, three brothers; Carl G. Steele, Carlton W. Steele, and Henry Steele, one sister; Pearl Steele.
She is survived by daughter; Virginia Aycox of Birmingham, AL, twin sister; Arnette Smotherman of Huntsville, two grandchildren; Joshua (Aaron) Aycox of Atlanta, GA, and Elizabeth Marie Aycox of Troy, AL.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Association or the American Cancer Society.
