FLORENCE-The Florence-Lauderdale Public Library have events for everyone.  Check out the upcoming events being featured at the library this month:

creative writingFrom Prose to Poetry: The Art of Creative Writing

Every Other Saturday from 2:00-4:00 pm, beginning September 20 Florence-Lauderdale Public Library

Want to learn to be a better writer? Then sign up for this new series of creative writing workshops at the library! These classes will be led by writing teacher  Mickey Lollar.Whether you want to write novels, short stories, poetry, or personal essays, this class will help you meet your goals. Adults of all ages are welcome.

Songwriters Showcasesongwriters showcase
Thursday, September 25, 6:00-8:00 pm Florence-Lauderdale Public Library

Mark Narmore, Donnie Lowery, and James LeBlanc will perform songs and share the stories behind those songs during this special event at the library.

These three songwriters have all written hit songs, some of which you just might recognize.  Donnie Lowery’s hits include Alabama’s “Old Flame” and Restless Heart’s “Why Does It Have to be Wrong or Right.”  Mark Narmore penned gold records “ The Moon Over Georgia,” recorded by Shenandoah, and “That’s What I Love About Sunday,” recorded by Craig Morgan.  James LeBlanc is a FAME recording artist as well as being a prolific songwriter.  His “Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde” was cut by Travis Tritt, and he has two cuts, “Where You Are” and “When the Sand Runs Out,” on the Rascal Flatts’ multi-platinum album “Feels like Today.” This event is free and open to the public. InclusionBirth to 5:  Understanding and Monitoring Developmental Milestones for Speech and Language with Barbara J. Nichols, Speech-Language Pathologist

Tuesday, September 30, at 5:30 pm or Saturday, October 4, at 1:00 pm Florence-Lauderdale Public Library

Learn how to monitor and address speech and language development in young children with this free class for parents, grandparents, and caregivers. Speech-Language Pathologist Barbara J. Nichols will discuss important speech and language milestones, risk factors for delayed and disordered speech and language, how to promote improvement, how to address your concerns, and resources you have access to.

Barbara J. Nichols, M.S. Ed., M.A. CC-SLP, has practiced since 1992 with a special focus on early intervention for developmental speech and/or language delays/disorders in children from birth to 5. She has worked for the Florence City School System for the past 6 years. Before moving to Alabama, she had a private practice in Denver, Colorado. In Colorado, she also worked for the Douglas County Public School System, the Social Security Disability Determination Department, and NovaCare, Inc, a rehabilitation provider. She currently offers consulting services and classes in the area of speech and language for children and adults.
