Tuscumbia, AL. The Annual North Alabama African Heritage Festival will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2012, at the Willie Green Recreational Center, 609 S East St., Tuscumbia, Alabama from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. The event is free.

According to Wallace Ricks, the President of the Board for the Festival, “We are so pleased that this event has grown to be one of the most anticipated and enjoyable events of the summer.  It boasts a family atmosphere with games for children, a blood drive, a voter registration booth, health screenings, prizes and a variety of educational booths.  This festival gives our local talents an opportunity to showcase their skills in education, arts, entertainment, crafts and culinary in hopes of expanding their own business interests.”

Susann Hamlin, executive director of the Colbert County Tourism and Convention Bureau, stated that she has seen this event grown from a purely local one to one that brings in people from across the region.  “The festival is a lot of fun with families using this event as a major “get together” in our community.  The music is always good and the food is superb,” Hamlin said.  “What more could you want in an event in your community.  The North Alabama African Heritage Festival Board of Directors are to be commended for bringing our community this event,” she said.
