Shirley Ann Ricks-Burgess – Obituary

shirleyShirley Ann Ricks-Burgess was born June 18, 1948, to Dorothy Lambert Ricks and Felix Ricks Sr. She quietly departed this life early Friday morning, Aug. 15, 2014. 

Shirley accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. James Missionary Baptist Church, Florence, Alabama, where she remained faithful and dedicated until she married Charlie Burgess Jr. and moved to California. 

Shirley worked for the United States government as a postal supervisor in California. She retired after many years of dedicated service and returned home to Florence, Alabama. 

After returning to Florence, she united with the Bethel Colbert Baptist Church, Leighton, Alabama, where she was very active as an usher, a matron, and a member of the choir. She was a faithful member for ten years before uniting with Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Florence, Alabama, where she remained for three years until her health started to decline. Prior to her passing, she joined Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, Florence, Alabama. 

She leaves to mourn her loss and cherish her loving memories three sisters and one brother, Rosa M. Nails (Rudolph), Virginia A. Simpson (Alcean), Deborah D. Ricks, and Felix Ricks Jr., all of Florence, Alabama; two nieces, LaTina Smith (Kelvin), Romeoville, Illinois, and LaTina R. Horison, Madison, Alabama; four nephews, Deric Simpson (Ronda), Valdosta, Georgia, Charles Nails, Nolensville, Tennessee, Marquis Ricks and Fontae Ricks, Smyrna, Tennessee; two aunts, Martha Armstrong and Jeanette Jackson (Charles), Florence, Alabama; two uncles, Charles Lambert (Geraldine), Indianapolis, Indiana, and Louis Lambert (Velma), Florence, Alabama; nine great-nieces; three great-nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. 

Funeral service will be

1 p.m. today at

Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, Florence, Alabama.

The body will be placed in the church one hour prior.

Burial will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens, Florence, Alabama.

Thompson and Son Funeral Home, Florence, is directing.
