john-walker-obituaryJohn Edgar Walker of Bethel Springs, TN, passed away Wednesday Morning, July 23, 2014 at the McNairy County Rehab Center in Selmer, TN, at the age of 87. He was born in Fort Myers, FL on January 25, 1927 and was a lifelong resident of McNairy County.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frank Walker and Willie Plunk Walker; three brothers, Ray, Weldon and Ancil Walker; two sisters, Kathleen Walker Brickey and Mary Jane Kernodle; and one niece, Susie Kernodle Prestigiacomo. John is survived by two brothers, Thomas Larry Walker (Wilma), and Dale Walker (Ann Dickson Walker); two sisters, Mildred Walker Wagster (Tom) and Judith Walker McAfee (Ralph); and 21 nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Bethel Springs High School, John served his country in Germany during WW II. Returning home, he worked for about 30 years at J. K. Walker Monument Company doing lettering, designs and stone cutting. On the side, he grew market vegetable crops and watermelons, and shared with family and friends.

John was a talented woodcarver whose waterfowl, bowls and spoons were admired by many. His other hobbies were beekeeping, cooking, hunting and fishing. Passersby remember his beautiful sunflowers and zinnia rows alongside highway 45.

He was well loved by all his family.
