duffDr. Duff David Austin, born September 6, 1926, went to live for all eternity with Jesus Christ, his lord and savior. Some called him Duff, some “doc”, and others Tony, all called him friend. Dr. Austin touched the lives of many members of our community and will be missed by all.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Elkins Funeral Home from 11 AM-12 PM. Funeral service will follow at 12 PM in the chapel with Rod Stansky officiating.

He was preceded in death by his mother Thelma Austin, his father Duff Austin, and his wife of 54 years Carolyn Austin.

He is survived by his daughter Ann Austin.

Tony was raised in Forest Mississippi, where he was valedictorian of his senior class. After serving in the US Air Force he then advanced on to receive his MD degree from the University of Mississippi Medical School. He practiced medicine in Newton, Mississippi for 20 years, after which he was employed as an emergency room physician, and ultimately at Lauderdale County Correction Facility. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, where he would play dominoes whenever the chance arose. A member of St. James United Methodist Church, Tony was in the Joy Sunday school class.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Florence Animal Shelter.
