Athens Rotary is sponsoring the Coolbone Brass Band’s appearance at the market from 9 a.m. to noon. The market opens at 8 a.m.

Steve “Coolbone” Johnson grew up in New Orleans and played with several brass bands until Hurricane Katrina disbursed players throughout the country. Johnson settled in North Alabama.

The band will perform again by parading around The Square at 6 p.m. at the end of the monthly Athens Cruise-In for vintage car lovers.

coolbone marching“We appreciate Rotary helping us bring the Coolbone Brass Band to Athens for both events,” said Spirit of Athens Director Trisha Black. “Everyone had a great time when the band came to one of our Saturday Market events last year, and we expect a crowd to come see them again.”

The Cruise-In is from 3-6 p.m. and is free to all classic cars.

“Spend your Fourth of July weekend with us, and you will be able to find great music, fresh produce, classic cars and more all in our downtown area,” Black said.
