Edna Inez Coyle Stone – Obituary

ednaEdna Inez Coyle Stone, who recently celebrated 90 vibrant years, died on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at home. Edna was a vital, caring and giving member of the Huntsville community for many years. As a beloved school teacher for 30 ½ years at Huntsville Junior High and Huntsville Middle School, she spent a great deal of her life educating and mentoring her students.

Edna was born the middle daughter to Monroe and Maye Coyle in Hurricane Valley, Alabama and was preceded in death by her two beloved sisters, Lottie Belle Coyle Burgess and Virginia Coyle Rodgers. Edna attended Montevallo and graduated with honors from Auburn University in 1945 with a BS in Home Economics and minors in math and science. She married Walter Purcell Stone in 1949 and enjoyed 50 years of marriage together, including raising three children, Walter Coyle, Ralph Purcell and Maye Kathryn Stone.

Edna and Walter were founding members of the McDonnell Need Us Class at First United Methodist church, faithfully serving as members for the past 65 years.

Edna is survived by her three children, Walter C. (Lil), Ralph P. (Cindi) and Sissy Stevinson (Ed); grandchildren, Conrad and Garrett Stone and Lesa Evans; and great-grandchild, Sophie Thompson Stone; nieces and nephews, Carolyn Burgess Featheringill and Joseph and Ben Rodgers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2014. The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 2 at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Coy Hallmark officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church.
