gibsonMichael Gibson, 60, died on Monday, May 26, 2014 at his home after a long and courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.  Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at Elkins Funeral Home.  The memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with Minister Vicki Goldston officiating.

He leaves to treasure his memory his wife, Anna Eastep Gibson of Florence; his mother, Jeanette Gibson of Tuscaloosa; his son, Ryan Gibson (Jessica) of Florence; grandchildren, Sierra, Jacob and Colton Gibson; sisters, Janie Kincaid (Mark), Laura Fields (Barry); and brother, Jack Gibson, all of Tuscaloosa; and beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles A. Gibson who also succumbed to pulmonary fibrosis at a young age.

Mike was a UNA graduate in the field of chemistry and was employed for many years at Reynolds and then Wise Metals.  He enjoyed canoeing, kayaking, diving, and hunting and was a part-time genius who could figure out how to make, repair, or improve just about anything.  With his infectiously positive attitude, he brightened the day of everyone he met.

Special thanks are given to Dr. Edsel Holden, Dr. Barry Lumpkins and Hospice of the Shoals for their excellent care.

The family requests no flowers, please.  Memorials may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 East Ohio Street, Suite 304, Chicago, IL  60611-3201.
