A Christmas Carol

Not a Bah Humbug in the house. Shoals folks kicked off the holiday season with a rattle of chains and, “A Merry Christmas to each and everyone” as  Pillar of Fire and The Florence/Lauderdale Public Library on Friday, Dec. 2, presented  their annual concert reading of Charles Dickens’, “A Christmas Carol”.

The performance took place in the colonnade of the lib located at 350 N. Wood Ave. in Florence.  The house was packed, the atmosphere full of holiday cheer and everyone seemed to have a great time as the ensemble cast read the beloved “A Christmas Carol”.  Bill Foster narrated, Ken Lawson performed as Scrooge and the rest of the cast included Nancy Sanford, Tony Holzer, Amy Flippo Montgomery, Brooke Perry, Anna Eastep Gibson, Kyle Weir, Jayne Jackson, Sara Biddle, Lily Holly, McKinzy McCollum and Forrest Pace. The performance was directed by Pillar of Fire Co-founder, Terry Pace.

The performance was preceded by a Terry Pace reading of “Bless Me, Father, For I Have Sinned,” a short story by Ray Bradbury, co-founder of Pillar of Fire.  This performance was dedicated to Norman Corwin, author, and stage, screen and radio dramatist who died Oct. 18, 2011, at the age of 101.

This was the 14th year a concert reading of “A Christmas Carol” was performed in The Shoals, and the fourth year the event has been held at The Florence/Lauderdale Public Library, each time to  standing-room-only crowds.
