Reckless Driving Traffic Stop Leads To Possession Of A Controlled Substance Arrest

DECATUR-A Decatur police officer made a reckless driving stop that resulted in an  arrest for possession of a controlled substance.  Here is how Decatur Police describe the incident:

“SYNOPSIS OF OFFENSE & ARREST:

On May 16, 2014, Officer Macklin with the Decatur Police Department’s Patrol Division observed a blue Dodge Nitro traveling on 5th Ave. SW. As the vehicle turned onto 2nd St. SW., Officer Macklin observed the vehicle driving recklessly by spinning its tires and accelerating at a high rate of speed.

Officer Macklin stopped the vehicle in the 400 block of 7th Ave. SW. The driver was identified as James Howard Gibson III. During the course of thetraffic stop, Gibson was found to be in possession of a quantity of synthetic cannabinoids. Gibson was placed under arrest for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and Reckless Driving.

Gibson was transported to Decatur City Jail where he was booked in and processed.

Gibson was later transferred to the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $3,000.00 bond.”
