jerryJerry Floyd Johnson, Sr. of Huntsville passed away peacefully on Wednesday. Mr. Johnson was born to Ruth and Earl Johnson of Sikeston, Missouri. He moved to Jackson, Michigan and graduated from Jackson High School in 1952. In 1953, he married his wife, Arlene. Mr. Johnson served in the United States Air Force from 1953 until 1957 and was stationed in the Philippines and Okinawa. After being honorably discharged, he attended college on the G.I. Bill while working three jobs to support his young family. Mr. Johnson graduated from Tri-State College, now Trine University, in Angola, Indiana, in 1959, with a degree in electrical engineering. Mr. Johnson moved with his wife and two children to Huntsville in the spring of 1961, where he worked with Teledyne Brown for eleven years. Their third child was born in Huntsville on New Year’s Day of 1964, in the middle of the record 19-inch snowstorm. In 1972, Mr. Johnson received an M.B.A. from Alabama A&M University. He served as a Webelos Scout leader, coached the Oak Park Cardinals baseball team, and served as the Park Director at Oak Park. During the 1974 economic downturn, Mr. Johnson worked for several different government contractors, never missing a single day of work. He then joined the US Army Material Command as the Chief of the Product Assurance and Test Division where he worked on the Hawk Missile Project, and retired in 1999. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were longtime members of Epworth United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene Johnson; children, Kerri Johnson Riley (Don), Jerry F. “Jay” Johnson Jr. (Karen), and Cindy Johnson Seeley (Paul), all of Huntsville; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 21st , at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, immediately followed by the service.

The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Randall, Dr. Bobby Johnson and Dr. George Morgan for their continued attentive care over many years. The family would also like to thank Paige Posey, Donna Jo Eaves, Rashaird Roberts and Roshell Budwah for the care and love they provided Mr. Johnson in the last stages of his life.
