Dean’s Speaker Series At Alabama A&M Continues With April Speaker Randy Lycans

speaker seriesHUNTSVILLE-The Dean’s Speaker Series will be held at Alabama A&M will be held Thursday, April 24, 2014 in the Arthur J. Bond Hall room 233 at Alabama A&M University.  The April keynote speaker will be Randy Lycans with a student presentation by Amina Obe.

Augmentation (ESSSA) Group at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, AL. In this role, he is responsible for providing scientific, engineering, and technical support to MSFC’s Engineering Directorate, Science and Technology Office, Flight Programs and Partnerships Office, as well as future programs and projects. Previously, he served as General Manager of the Engineering, Science, and Technical Services (ESTS) Group at MSFC where he provided support to all of MSFC’s directorates and offices. Prior to serving as GM, Randy was the Deputy General Manager and Director of the ESTS Group’s Engineering Directorate where he supported programs such as the Space Shuttle Return-to-Flight, the International Space Station, and the development of microgravity materials science experiments.
Randy has more than 30 years of experience, the bulk of which has been spent supporting the human space flight program at NASA MSFC in various management and technical roles. He has experience in thermal analysis, wind tunnel test support, and launch vehicle design and development. Randy was selected as a NASA Space Flight Launch Honoree in 2003 and has authored a number of technical papers and journal articles. He is the chairman of the Board of Directors for the Sci-Quest Hands On Science Center and a member of AIAA where he serves on the Management Technical Committee. Randy amina obereceived an MS degree in Mechanical Engineering (1985) and a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering (1981) from the University of Akron. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Alabama. Lycans presentation is entitled “Countdown! Launching Your Career!”.

Amina Obe is a senior majoring in Computer Science here at Alabama A&M. Obe will be doing a presentation entitled “Utilizing a Raspberry Pi To Save A Life: The application of inexpensive technology to decrease instances of child abduction”.
