Gene Garrett – Obituary

GeneGene Garrett, 76, of Union Grove, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; daughter, Holly McCarty (Jim); son, Mark Garrett (Josephine); brother, Ronald Garrett (Geri); grandsons, Alex and Evan McCarty; granddaughters, Serena and Angelica Garrett; and stepdaughter, Diya LeDuc and family.

Gene was born and raised in Laurel, Mississippi. Gene worked hard to put himself through college at Mississippi Southern College where he earned a degree in Business Administration. After earning his degree, Gene moved to Huntsville and opened his real estate appraisal office in 1970. In 1975, Gene earned his MAI designation from the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers. He served in numerous positions for the Appraisal Institute including Secretary, Vice President and President of the Alabama Chapter.

Gene’s favorite activity was playing golf. He enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to play at many famous golf courses. Gene played many rounds of golf and made many wonderful friends at Valley Hill Country Club.

Gene was a wonderful husband, loving father and great “Grumps” to all his grandchildren. He was loved and will be missed.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A celebration of his life and an opportunity to share memories will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Valley Hill Country Club.

In lieu of flower, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
