Athens Plans A February Filled With Fun

ATHENS-Athens upcoming events for the month of February.  It looks to be all about the kids and chocolate…fried fish and chili.  Listed below are just a few of the events scheduled for Athens.

 

 

boys and girls club● Boys and Girls Club Annual Banquet and Fundraiser

Thursday, Feb., 6:30 p.m., Beasley Center

Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased at the Boys and Girls Club at 1017 W. Washington St. in Athens. Contact Director Pete Miller for more information at 256-232-4298.

 

● Spirit of Athens Chocolate Walkchocolate walk

Saturday, Feb. 8, noon-5 p.m., The Square

Limited to 125 tickets. Cost is $10. Meet first at the SOA office on Jefferson Street by LuVici’s to get a list of participating merchants and their sweet deals and a bag to collect your chocolate. Those who visit each participating merchant will be put in a drawing for $25 in Love Bucks to spend at a participating shop. Online link to buy tickets coming soon. jessica● Jessica Elkins Memorial Pageant

Saturday, Feb. 8, 5 p.m., Athens Middle School auditorium, 601 S. Clinton St.

Proceeds benefit the Jessica Elkins Memorial Scholarship Fund for Athens High School. Registration is Friday, Feb. 7, 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 8, from 2-3:30 p.m. Fee is $50 per entry and $10 each for the photogenic category or three entries for $25 for photogenic. ● Our Town Series – Redistricting: Gains and Lossesour town

Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Instructor: Mayor Ronnie Marks and Athens State political professor Jess Brown

Redistricting is the process of drawing electoral boundaries. What does redistricting mean to Athens? Find out how the outcomes of elections are swayed when new lines are drawn. This is part of a series called “Our Town” where speakers from the city and their guests will discuss a topic a month to share information about Athens. Cost is $5 and includes pie.

 

chili challenger● 26th annual Hospice of Limestone County Chili Challenge and Silent Auction

Saturday, Feb. 22, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (auction ends at 1:30 p.m.), Athens High School

$10 per person to taste and vote on 32 different chili recipes. Bid on sports items, artwork, gift certificates, lawn and garden supplies, etc. Proceeds benefit services provided by Hospice of Limestone County, such as Camp Home, respite workers, etc. Call 256-232-5017 for tickets or to be a challenger.

 

● City of Athens Relay for Life Annual Swamp John’s Supperswamp johns

Tuesday, March 11, 4-7 p.m., Athens Senior Center

Fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and local cancer patients. Tickets $10. Includes shrimp, fish, chicken or combo plates with sides and tea. Call 256-233-8730 for tickets or see any City of Athens Relay for Life team member.
