Funeral for Milton Robert Slate, 58, of Hartselle will be Sunday, January 19, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Floyd Bradford, Rev. Joey Coots and Rev. Thomas Erb officiating. Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Slate was born October 3, 1955, in Augusta, Georgia, to Milford Osmond Slate and Laura Fulmer Slate. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. Mr. Slate was an avid fisherman, hunter, and he loved the outdoors. He was a loving husband and father. Even though he was severely disabled, he led an active lifestyle. He was preceded in death by one sister, Linda Turner. He is survived by his wife, Nellie F. Slate; one son, Bradley N. Slate of Madison; one daughter, Shannon K. Slate of Decatur; one brother, David A. Slate of South Carolina; and one sister, Barbara S. Graham of Athens. Pallbearers will be Mark Converse, Mark Lucas, J.R. Jenkins, Mike McGill, Josh Holladay and Bryan Taylor. Family accepting flowers or donations may be made to American Cancer Society.
