William Hoyt Dempsey – Obituary

WilliamWilliam Hoyt Dempsey, age 75, of Muscle Shoals, lost his battle with cancer on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, surrounded by loved ones. The family received friends for visitation on Monday, Dec. 23, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will be today at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Officiating will be Roy Scott and Jimbo Dowdell. Burial will follow at Mountain Home Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Belgreen.

Mr. Dempsey grew up in Belgreen and graduated from Belgreen High School in 1958. In his early years, he attended Mt. Home Presbyterian Church and was baptized there. More recently he was attending the Cowboy Church of Colbert County until his health began to fail. Mr. Dempsey was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Reynolds Metal Company after 30 years of service in the cast house.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Lafayette and Lillie Gober Dempsey; and brothers, Jack Thomas Dempsey and Bobbie Harold Dempsey.

Survivors include a son, Jeffrey H. Dempsey; daughter, Brenda Scott (Robert); sister, Nell Hester; grandchildren, Ashely Grace Adum (Corey), William Bradley Dempsey, Nicholas Jeffery Dempsey, Amanda Lashell Herring, William Gregory Herring, and Jordan Berry; great- grandchildren, Mercedes Lopez, Jalen Herring, and Jacoby Herring; the mother of his children, Doris Faye Berry; and his pet, Marley.

Pallbearers will be Bradley Dempsey, Nicholas Dempsey, Joel Shewbart, Jamie Hester, Jordan Berry, William Gregory Herring, and Corey Adum.
