Rachel Violet Dewberry – Obituary

Mrs. Rachel Violet Dewberry, 91, of Florence, passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.

Visitation will be today beginning at noon at Greenview Funeral Home, with the service following at 1 p.m. in the chapel, with Bill Siegel officiating. Burial will follow in Walston Cemetery.

Mrs. Dewberry was born Feb. 17, 1922, in the Wright Community to Jim and Lily Saddler Sharp. A dedicated Christian, she was a member of Christ Chapel Church.

Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Claude Dewberry Jr.; infant grandson, James Dale Springer Jr.; son-in-law, Hugh V. Bell; brothers, Edward, Homer and Lowell Sharp; and sisters, Bess Mitchell, Annie Mae Ragan and Nell Cagle.

She is survived by her daughters, Claudeen Bell (Earl), Cheryl Smallwood (Gary), Jean Gay Seay (Wayne) and Edna Kaye Behel (Jimmy); granddaughters, Suzanne Shelton, Sherri Pate, Lisa Stone (Chad), Debbie Sprouse, Summer Behel and Ashley Beadle (Will); grandson, Mark Grigsby (Jana); stepgrandchildren, Bethany Darnell and Adam Smallwood; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Aileen Sharp.

The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Mann and Dr. Robert Webb for their excellent care; also, to the staff of Hospice of the Shoals, expecially Heather, Debbie and Lisa. A special thank you is extended to her caregivers, Shelia Wood and Linda Hill. We appreciate the love and care you gave our mother.

Pallbearers will be Stephen Fossett, Chad Stone, Ashtin Pate, Jonathan Grigsby, Will Beadle and Mark Grigsby. Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua Grigsby and Matt Fossett.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Shoals, 115 Fairground Rd., Florence, AL, 35633.

“Her work on earth is done, the life-crown has been won

And she will be at rest with Him above;

And some glad morning she, I know, will welcome us

To that eternal home of peace and love”.
