The Shoals Environmental Alliance is hosting this special event at Florence-Lauderdale Public Library. Dr. Jim shoals env allLacefield’s presentation will use color photographs, Google Earth images, paleogeographic maps, and original artwork to describe how the 400-million-year history of
northwest Alabama is preserved in the rocks and fossils of the area. The talk summarizes the geological evidence that documents the long-term evolution of North Alabama’s landscape as well as newly discovered clues to the development of the modern course of the Tennessee River. The presentation explains how geology has shaped our local geography and history, controlled the path of area streams, and determined how humans have put the land to use since it was first settled.
