Martha Christine Barnes, 78, died Friday, November 29, 2013, at the Courtyards Nursing Facility. She was born July 30, 1935, to James and Clara Gann George. She worked in the garment plant industry most of her life and was a homemaker. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in East Tupelo. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting.
Services will be at 2 p. m. Sunday, December 1, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Bill Adams officiating. Burial will be in the Center Star Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Barnes of Mantachie and Oscar Barnes (Becky) of Starkville; four brothers, Gordon George (Nora Ann) of Red bay, AL, Riley George (Sarah) of Belmont, Otis George (Myra), and Edward George of Myrtle; two sisters, Margaret Pardue (Tommy) of Belmont and Shelia Bolton (Billy) of Golden; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bro. Z.I. Barnes; one son, Zee Irvin Barnes, Jr.; one daughter, Clara Rayburn; one brother, Vester Lee George; one sister, Vera Nell Page; and her parents.
Her nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p. m. Saturday at McNeece–Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie.
