Alabama Native Country Music Singer… Wayne Mills Dead At 44

wayne mills NASHVILLE– Saturday evening the country music community mourned over the loss of one of its own. Alabama native,  Jerald Wayne Mills, passed away due to injuries received from being shot by Nashville club owner, Chris Michael Ferrell, on Saturday morning. it was reported that Mills lit a cigarette in the non-smoking area of the nightclub and a struggle ensued between Ferrell and Mills after which witnesses outside the bar heard gunshots and contacted authorities.  According to a statement by Ferrell to police officers he claims he shot the victim in self-defense.  authorities report that Ferrell had a valid handgun carry permit.

According to the Facebook page for The Wayne Mills Band , Mills was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he died Saturday afternoon.  Wayne Mills is survived by his wife Carol, and son Jack. A fund has been set up for those wanting to donate to Wayne and his family.

Mills, 44 was the lead singer of The Wayne Mills Band.  He  was born in Arab, Alabama, and played

football for the University of Alabama and earned a degree in education.  But soon  after receiving his degree he started  playing guitar and went on the road playinghis “Outlaw” brand of country music.  He was named one of the honorees of the Guardian Award with the Outlaw Music Hall of Fame.

Fans will remember his traditional country music sound akin to George Jones or Waylon Jennings.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time.
