Athens Celebrates Veteran’s Day

ATHENS FEATUREDATHENS-The City of Athens will celebrate Veteran’s Day.  Here is a list of closures and events taking place in Athens.

Athens High School
Friday, Nov. 8, 9:30 a.m.
The Athens High School Veterans Day Assembly will be in the south gymnasium. A reception in the JROTC rifle range will follow. All local veterans, their families and the public are invited.

 

Athens Veterans Day Parade 
Saturday, Nov. 9, 11 a.m.
Includes high school bands, floats, veterans organizations and more. Prizes will be awarded for best overall and most patriotic entry. Floats and entries will line up at Athens High School and go west on Hobbs Street, around The Square and south on Jefferson Street to Hometown Grocery. Grand marshals this year will Alice Rogers, WWII Cadet Nurse and Carmen Montgomery, WWII Army Nurse Corps. Louise Steele of DAR will be the honorary grand marshal.
City of Athens
Monday, Nov. 11
City offices will be closed Monday, Nov. 11, for Veterans Day. However, the city will pick up recycling for those on the designated route for Monday, Nov. 11. Residents should always have their recycling containers on the curb by 6 a.m.
