FLORENCE – State Senator Tammy Irons of Florence sent Governor Robert Bentley and urgent message yesterday (Wednesday) to garner his help in saving 1,100 jobs in her District. The letter was tendered only hours after Memphis-based International Paper announced the closure of the Courtland paper mill.

Here is the copy of her letter to Governor Bentley:

The Industrial Board of Lawrence County, needs to get a auto parts manufacture to look at the building and give some tax breaks on the land, and it could bring 2,000 employees there, and increase the local tax base times two or more. I’m sure IP would like to get rid of the building quick as possible, or split the building up for two or more companies. So many ways you can fill that gap at IP, look what Nucor and others did for Decatur just a few miles down the road.
