IMG_3252 copyHILLSBORO – Along a wide-spot in the road between Courtland and Decatur is the recently-restored home of General Joe Wheeler. Wheeler, a hero of the Civil War and the Spanish-American war, would be 177 years old this month.

To celebrate this occasion, the Alabama Historical Commission held a big birthday party for the only former Confederate General who was re-commissioned in the United States Army after his service the “War of Northern Aggression”.

The Quad-Cities Daily was on hand to take Event Photos of the big celebration. Here they are. They are nice and big so that you can make a print for yourself. A photo printer works nicely, or the file can be downloaded to a thumb-drive and printed at your nearby drugstore. Remember to select “View full size” in the box down below the slideshow image on the right. Just remember, please, that these photos are for your PRIVATE, NON-COMMERCIAL USE ONLY! Enjoy!
