Geneva Crowder Beumer, 88, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, in Florence, Ala. She was born in the Central Heights community of Lauderdale County and lived most of her life in St. Florian and in Florence. She was a graduate of Central High School and attended classes at Florence State Teacher’s College, now the University of North Alabama. She retired as bookkeeper form the Florence Coca-Cola Bottling Company after 43 years of loyal service.
She was raised in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, but was a longtime member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in St. Florian. She served the parish in a variety of volunteer capacities over the years. She particularly enjoyed her 50 plus years of being a cashier at the July 4 and Labor Day picnics.
Geneva is survived by a son, Mark Beumer, of Florence; a granddaughter, Caroline B. Jones and husband, Jeffrey, of Florence; a grandson, Alex Beumer, of Birmingham; sisters, Nell Payne and Mary Wells, of Florence, Geraldine Kynerd, of Pearl, Miss., Barbara Curry, of Huntsville, Ala.; a brother, Jack Crowder, of Florence; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John Beumer; sisters, Jane Thompson and Dorothy Witt; brother, Carl Crowder; her father, Howard Crowder; and her mother, Willowdean Broadfoot Crowder.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in St. Florian. Officiant will be Father Edward Markley, O.S.B. Burial will follow in the St. Michael’s Cemetery in St. Florian. Pallbearers will be Alex Beumer, Jeffrey Jones, Jimmy Thompson, Mike Thompson, Roy Baskins and Andy Betterton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the American Red Cross of Northwest Alabama, Post Office Box 218, Florence, AL 35631.
