Lewis Carl Bartmess – Obituary

LewisLewis Carl Bartmess, 89, died after a lengthy illness on August 7, 2013.
The family will welcome guests at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10 at Greenview Funeral Home with a graveside service following in Greenview Memorial Park at 10:00 a.m.
Mr. Bartmess was born in Houston, Texas on October 13, 1923. He attended Texas A&M University. During World War II he served as a navigator in the US Navy Air Corps in the Pacific theater. After the war he completed his degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Houston.
Mr. Bartmess retired as Vice-President of Alabama Tennessee Natural Gas Company in Muscle Shoals.
He participated in many youth and civic community organizations, belonged to the Sheffield Lion’s Club, the Masons, and coached youth baseball and ice hockey. He enjoyed snow skiing, ice skating, tennis, hunting and golf throughout his years. An avid traveler, he visited all fifty of the United States and several foreign countries. He was a member of Turtle Point Country Club for 50 years.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Lois Bartmess, his daughter Nancy Bartmess and husband Richard Burroughs of Atlanta, Georgia, sons Dr. John Bartmess and wife Bea of Florence, Alabama, and Roger Bartmess and wife Susan of Ooltewah, Tennessee. He is also survived by grandchildren Drs. Kimberly Ulett and husband Glen of Brisbane, Australia, Jennifer Bartmess of Zurich, Switzerland, Stuart Bartmess of Atlanta, Georgia, Hadley Burroughs of Dallas, Texas, Richard Burroughs IV of Atlanta, Georgia, and Ben and Lewis Bartmess of Ooltewah, Tennessee.
The family wishes to give special thanks to his doctors David Brown, Hisham Ba’Albaki and Anthony Kalliath and caregivers Melody Pickens, Sue Grisham, Lisa Grossheim, Renee Prater, and Cindy Minch.
