Marshall County DHR Social Worker Receives 2013 Alabama Spirit of Adult Services Award

DHRMONTGOMERY – Charlotte Mountain, a social worker who investigates and arranges services for adults at risk of abuse, neglect, and/or exploitation for Marshall County Department of Human Resources (DHR), is the recipient of the 2013 Alabama Adult Protective Services Spirit Award.

The award is presented annually to a frontline worker who, through his or her own initiative and ideas, makes significant contribution to the growth and development of the Adult Protective Services (APS) program.

As the Spirit of APS Award winner for Alabama, Ms. Mountain will be nominated for the national Spirit of NAPSA (National Adult Protective Services Association) award, which will be presented at the annual conference in Minneapolis – St. Paul, MN in October 2013.

Doris Ball, Director of the Adult Protective Services Division commended Ms. Mountain stating, “She represents the good case work done by APS staff across the state.”

NAPSMarshall County DHR Director, Marcia Parker, recognized Ms. Mountain for the, “energy, initiative and commitment that she brings to the adults she serves in Marshall County.” “Ms. Mountain is devoted to her clients, and she is the most caring person of anyone I know,” said Ms. Parker.

Ms. Mountain has provided consistent and quality services to the elderly and disabled population in Marshall County for 22 years. “She has gone above and beyond in her duties,” states Kathleen Rice, Marshall County APS Supervisor.

NAPSA is a national organization representing the interests of Adult Protective Services programs and has members in every state. The organization is a leader in developing national policy recommendations and providing advocacy, training, research, and innovation in the field of Adult Protective Services.

In Fiscal Year 2012, the Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR) investigated approximately 6,000 adult protective service referrals.
