TUSCUMBIA – Colbert County District Attorney, Bryce Graham informed the media that his office has increased the charges against Homajean Grisham III to First Degree Murder. Grisham is accused of the vicious June 28 stabbing murder of his ex-wife, Jessica Nicole Broadfoot.

D.A. Graham told The quad-Cities Daily that the charges were upgraded because Alabama case law supports Capital Murder under these alleged vicious circumstances. Sheriff Ronnie May and his investigators discussed the charges with Graham and agreed that they fit the circumstances of the murder.

Court documents filed Monday allege that Grisham began stabbing broadfoot while his truck was in route on Highway 72 to his father’s farm near Cherokee. The documents further allege that Grisham drove to a back section of some family property nearby and dumped the woman’s body in a field. Authorities believe that he then drove his truck to his father’s house on Broadfoot Lane, where he confessed to his father that he had killed his ex-wife.

Once his son had left the house, the elder Grisham called authorities and informed them of what had happened. The suspected murdered was caught on 2nd Street in Muscle Shoals and was taken into custody. The elder Grisham found Broadfoot’s remains and led Sheriff May and some deputies to the site. Her body was reported to have been stabbed many times.

Grisham has a court-appointed attorney, Sheila Morgan. Now that the charges have been elevated to a capital crime, the Court will set in motion an appointment of the State-required second lawyer. news reports indicate that Morgan met with Grisham in his cell Wednesday. It was reported that she indicated the man is ‘remorseful’ and is in ‘shock’.
