Historic marker to be dedicated Thursday in Florence

FLORENCE – Florence, Alabama is known for some of the most interesting landmarks in the South. From the the notorious outlaw Tom Clark, who is buried under Tennessee Street,  to Dred Scott, who spent some time here, to The Forks of Cypress plantation. and tomorrow, Thursday the Historical Board will do it again.

The Karsner-Kennedy House – Built in 1828 – Gets historical marker.

Here’s the notice:

“At 11:00 a.m. on June 27, 2013, the Florence Historical Board will unveil a Historical Marker at the Karsner-Kennedy House, located at 301 North Pine Street.kennedy karser house_MG_9011

The Karsner-Kennedy House was built in 1828 by Benjamin F. Karsner.  The Florence Housing Authority restored the house to its original style and condition in 1971 and was sold to the City of Florence in 1974.  The Florence Main Street office has been located in the house since it was established in 1992.

Mayor Haddock, the Florence City Council, and the Florence Historical Board members invite the public to the ceremony which will last about 30 minutes.

The house will be open to the public after the ceremony.”
