rogersville bluegrass festival 2013ROGERSVILLE – State Senator Tammy Irons and State Representative Lynn Greer were honored Tuesday morning in Rogersville for their help in naming a championship event as an official Alabama function. Irons and Greer introduced bills that enacted the Rogersville Bluegrass Festival, scheduled for July 19-20.

The State of Alabama made this an official event in the last legislative session. The Bill, passed by both houses of the Legislature, was signed into law by Governor Bentley. Although the Festival is in it’s 12th year, this legislation makes it possible to expand and grow.

Here’s what they have to say about the Bluegrass Festival:

“The Rogersville Bluegrass Festival is in its 12th year and for the first time will now host both band and instrument competitions. Competitors will be competing for the Alabama Bluegrass Music Championship in banjo, mandolin, dobro and guitar.

Although the focus IS the Championship, a large part of the atmosphere will be music participation, camaraderie and jamming under the shade trees.
We expect local participation. The North Alabama area is rich with traditional folk music, but, of course, we expect out-of-state entrants as well.
The festival will promote our area’s Bluegrass roots and provide a performance platform for some of Bluegrass music’s established and upcoming talents.”
