MUSCLE SHOALS – There’s nothing like it. Seeing years of hard work and sacrifice pay off. It gives one a great sense of accomplishment. Blake Copeland, recent graduate of Muscle Shoals High School, is beginning to experience how good life can be when you give it your all.
His grandfather, Kenneth Copeland of Littleville, told The Quad-Cities Daily about Blake and we wanted to meet him. Kenneth, Littleville, Alabama Mayor brought him to the Shoals Economic Development Authority offices in Florence where we had a chance to say “hello”.

In just a few days, this young man will be on a plane up to Annapolis to begin his college career at The United States Naval Academy. He’s going to play football for NAVY. “I’d just like to thank my coaches. They really taught me about becoming a man… and working hard. They taught me good football fundamentals to get me where I am today.” Blake said that his coaches, next to his Mother, Helen and his Father, Chris were the most influential people in his life. A really humble young man, he gave them all the credit for his success on the field and in the classroom.

It has been nine months since the Naval Academy offered him the football scholarship. He committed in January. A lot of decision-making for a 17-year-old. Blake turns 18 on June 28. He will be Maryland on his birthday.

Blake is the youngest child of Chris and Helen. When asked if they were going to be OK with the “empty nest”, Chris said, “It’s going to be different.” Boy, will it ever.
